Japan Yoga Retreat:

A Journey to Ikigai

and Self-Mastery

April 4 - April 11, 2025

LET'S GO!

A Deeper Dive:

What Awaits You in Kyoto and Izu

Part I: Kyoto – The Soul of Japan

In Kyoto, every moment is an opportunity to connect with centuries of tradition and a rich tapestry of cultural experiences:

  • Ancient Temples and Gardens: These sacred spaces are more than just beautiful—they offer experiences that refine your sense of aesthetics and deepen your personal journey.
  • Hiking Through Bamboo Groves: Wander through towering bamboo groves, a tranquil setting that inspires a sense of peace and harmony with nature.
  • Cherry Blossom Viewing: Immerse yourself in the delicate beauty of sakura season, taking time to reflect in the presence of Kyoto’s iconic cherry blossoms.
  • Traditional Markets: Explore bustling markets where you can sample local foods, shop for artisanal crafts, and discover Kyoto’s treasures.
  • Culinary Adventures: Savor the tastes of Kyoto with meals that delight the senses and nourish the body. Whether it's a seasonal kaiseki meal or street food in a bustling market, the focus on fresh, local ingredients and artful presentation will give you a new appreciation for mindful eating.
  • Wander Through Quiet Streets: Kyoto’s quiet alleyways offer a chance to slow down and savor the Old World. Whether it's a quiet walk at sunrise or a thoughtful afternoon stroll through Gion, each step can become a meditation.

Part II: Izu Peninsula -

In Nature's Embrace

As you transition from Kyoto to Izu on the Shinkansen, you’ll feel a shift from cultural immersion to natural wonder. Izu’s landscapes will invite you to explore the connection between your inner world and the natural world around you.

  • Cycling Through Japan’s Lush Countryside: Feel the wind on your face as you cycle through vibrant landscapes often with Mt Fuji in the backdrop, immersing yourself in the lush countryside.
  • Shinto Shrines and Spiritual Connection: Visit local Shinto shrines tucked away in the landscape, where you'll have the chance to learn about this unique religion and how it promotes eco-sensitive living.
  • Healing Onsen Experience: Sink into the mineral-rich waters of a traditional onsen (hot spring), surrounded by nature. In Izu Peninsula, the water that melts from Mt Fuji blesses these springs. What a great way to receive healing AND appreciate the region's bounty!
  • Take in breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji from Panorama Park, where the iconic peak stands majestically against the sky. This awe-inspiring sight provides a moment of connection to nature’s grandeur and an opportunity to reflect on the journey within

Impact on Your Growth: As you experience the sacred temples of Kyoto and the natural grandeur of Izu, you’ll find yourself evolving—becoming a more mindful, connected, and inspired human being.

This is an invitation to step fully into who you are becoming.

Meet Your Host Mariko!

Hey there! I’m Mariko Hirakawa, B.A.M.S., founder of Visionary Yoga, and since 2012, I’ve been guiding transformative retreats in some of the world’s most magical places—Japan, my home country, being one of my absolute favorites!

My journey started as a professional ballet dancer in New York City, so movement has always been at the heart of my life. Along the way, though, I became deeply drawn to the inner dimensions of Yoga, a passion that led me to India, where I spent over a decade studying Ayurveda and Yoga at India’s leading university and the feet of Masters.

I’m an innovator, healer, teacher, author, and speaker. I've had the honor of speaking at the United Nations and at Fortune 500 companies like Verizon. But what truly drives me is working with people like you, helping you connect more deeply with yourself, your purpose, and the world around you.

And I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a “nomad yogi.” Having led more than 30 retreats around the globe has only confirmed my belief that travel expands our consciousness.

Group Dinner in Tuscany, Italy

My Yoga style? Imagine a creative blend of Ashtanga’s fire, Anusara’s alignment, and the fluidity of dance, all wrapped up with a healthy dose of depth to take you far beyond just the physical shapes.

I am for an experience of Yoga that goes right to the core—inviting transformation, release, and a rediscovery of your strength and grace. I’ve even included a video to give you a taste of it, so go ahead, check it out!

In Hampi, South India

You get to see how different cultures honor the Divine in their own unique way, which I think makes you a better human—and maybe even a “Citizen of the Globe” (which I believe we’re all meant to be).

I can’t wait to share this journey with you and to help you unlock parts of yourself you didn’t even know were there. So, are you ready?

What Our Past Attendees Have to Say

"This is worth the journey because you're gonna be in an incredible space to just restructure your whole life and being, and reset everything.

What I loved about this retreat was the combination of Mariko's yoga style, the beautiful location, the hotel is just amazing. It's just a space where you can deeply relax, go inward, and also find the community, eat amazing food.

The whole combination of everything was just perfect. I'm a yoga teacher myself, so I've taken thousands of yoga classes. Her style is very, very unique and yes it's definitely something you want to attend!

And I just feel better about my body, my mind, my spirit, my whole wellbeing.

I really feel so rested now and very different than when I arrived here a week ago."

- Claudia M, Retreat Attendee (Los Angeles, CA)

“It was per-r-r-rfect! Everything was amazing! The Yoga, the Visionary workshop, and amazing cultural experiences. Very well organized!”

- Nicole M, Retreat Attendee (New York, NY)

"This was more than just a workshop. What I mean is other workshops you go, you take a class and you write all the stuff and then you don’t do anything.

Mariko is just a very good teacher. She has a background in yoga that allows her to be very specific and helping you learn how to improve your own yoga practice.

But its more than just yoga. It’s also integrating the visionary and her background in Ayurvedic medicine since she is an Ayurvedic doctor.

She is a pioneer in yoga. But she's moving into the next step to help people on a larger s- Nicole M, Retreat Attendee (New York, NY)

"Oh, absolutely. Do it. Absolutely fabulous. I mean, we meet some

great, like-minded folks. Yes. it's been so much fun.

But it's also a special time when you can just shut the laptop down... to have a week like this is such a special, wonderful  opportunity that doesn't happen very often...

And Mariko in particular is so humble, but an amazing yoga teacher and guru.

I think very much just being in her presence is inspiring. and  she's just so inspirational, very calming and, and wonderful to be around as well.

So if you get the chance, it's something, very special and quite wonderful participate in."

The entire experience exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to come back for another retreat with Mariko!

She is most effective as a teacher and has helped me to identify the strengths and weaknesses in my body enabling me to perform the asanas with greater comfort and ease…

Most importantly, she makes me feel that she cares; and, additionally, I feel a sense of improvement as a result of the way she encourages me and shows me how to work with my body.”

“Emotionally, spiritually you'll be changed and just to say, I think she attracts amazing people.

You are going to come away with a lot more than you probably paid for in the end.

I would say do it. I would say don’t think with your head. Think with your heart and do it if you can.

Because I am learning more and more that things are just things but these experiences are so much more valuable.

You are with a true blue authentic professional. She's definitely a 110 capable of bringing that to the table. Teaching you that and embodying that.

That's worth itself. Like right there. That’s hard to find. It’s something that you'll take home with you beyond just the physicality of it.”
