Ready for the Adventure of a Lifetime? Discover Japan, Reconnect with Your Purpose, and Unfold Unlock the Best Version of You
Discover your Hidden Path to Ikigai...
Ikigai—your reason for being. It’s what gets you up in the morning with a sense of purpose that lights you up from the inside out. In Japan, perhaps this concept originated from the culture's deep appreciation of the transitory nature of life.
Being in touch with one's Ikigai forces you to be fully present, from the way tea is poured to how you move through the day.
On this retreat, you’ll not only experience the beauty and serenity of Japan, but you’ll also begin to uncover your own Ikigai—a path that aligns who you uniquely are, what you love, and what the world needs.
This journey is about more than just stepping away from your daily routine. It’s about rewiring how you experience every moment.
On this retreat, something inside of you shifts—a deeper appreciation of life unfolds. The everyday tasks back home, the interactions, the challenges, they’ll all feel different. You’ll carry a sense of peace, mindfulness, and mastery that transforms the way you move through the world.
This retreat is unlike anything I’ve ever done before. It’s more than just a yoga retreat—it’s an immersive journey across two of Japan’s iconic regions.
You’ll experience the rich, cultural history of Kyoto, staying in a historic home right in the heart of Old Town. Picture yourself visiting ancient temples, wandering through quiet streets, tasting local delicacies, and participating in truly authentic Japanese experiences.
And then, we take it up a notch. We’ll hop on the world-famous Shinkansen, speeding through the countryside to reach the Izu Peninsula.
Here, you’ll feel the energy shift as we trade city streets for nature’s grandeur. We’ll cycle through serene landscapes with majestic views of Mt. Fuji, visit sacred Shinto shrines, and soak in the healing waters of traditional Japanese onsen (hot springs).
This 7-night, 8-day odyssey will leave you with a profound sense of connection—not only to yourself but also to the incredible culture and landscape of Japan.
It’s the perfect blend of personal growth, cultural immersion, and breathtaking travel that you won’t find anywhere else.
This infographic outlines our journey on this Japan Yoga Retreat 2025: Journey to Ikigai and Self-Mastery.
Begin your adventure in Japan’s vibrant capital, Tokyo, before taking a quick domestic flight to Osaka. You'll take an express train to Kyoto Station, where our Private Transfer will take you to our Retreat Venue in the cultural heart of the country—Kyoto - a century old traditional house with a Japanese garden with modern comforts.
Settle in, meet fellow participants, enjoy a Welcome Dinner and prepare for an extraordinary journey ahead.
Over the next few days, immerse yourself in the sacred traditions of Kyoto. Wander through ancient temples, explore quiet streets, and experience authentic Japanese culture. From Geisha District to peaceful meditation gardens, each day offers a new layer of reflection and inspiration for your yoga practice and personal growth.
Travel in style aboard the famous Shinkansen (bullet train) as we journey to the Izu Peninsula, leaving behind Kyoto’s historic charm for the majestic natural beauty of Izu. Upon arrival, you’ll settle into a traditional Ryokan with spectacular views of Mt. Fuji, setting the stage for the next chapter of this retreat.
Dive into the serene landscapes of Izu, starting each day with yoga and meditative practices. Enjoy a cycling tour through the countryside with nature's splendor as your backdrop, and visit sacred Shinto shrines for spiritual reflection. We'll also take the ropeway Izu's Panorama Park to enjoy epic views of Mt Fuji. Evenings are for unwinding in the onsen (natural hot springs), allowing the healing waters to restore both body and mind.
We'll conclude our retreat with one final morning yoga session, taking in the peaceful energy of Mt. Fuji before we return to Tokyo. You’ll leave feeling rejuvenated, with lasting memories and a renewed sense of self.
This retreat offers the perfect balance of cultural immersion and personal transformation. Each location—Kyoto’s timeless beauty and Izu’s natural splendor—provides a unique backdrop for you to grow as both a human and a yogi.

Part II: Izu Peninsula -
In Nature's Embrace
As you transition from Kyoto to Izu on the Shinkansen, you’ll feel a shift from cultural immersion to natural wonder. Izu’s landscapes will invite you to explore the connection between your inner world and the natural world around you.
This is an invitation to step fully into who you are becoming.
Hey there! I’m Mariko Hirakawa, B.A.M.S., founder of Visionary Yoga, and since 2012, I’ve been guiding transformative retreats in some of the world’s most magical places—Japan, my home country, being one of my absolute favorites!
My journey started as a professional ballet dancer in New York City, so movement has always been at the heart of my life. Along the way, though, I became deeply drawn to the inner dimensions of Yoga, a passion that led me to India, where I spent over a decade studying Ayurveda and Yoga at India’s leading university and the feet of Masters.
I’m an innovator, healer, teacher, author, and speaker. I've had the honor of speaking at the United Nations and at Fortune 500 companies like Verizon. But what truly drives me is working with people like you, helping you connect more deeply with yourself, your purpose, and the world around you.
And I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a “nomad yogi.” Having led more than 30 retreats around the globe has only confirmed my belief that travel expands our consciousness.

My Yoga style? Imagine a creative blend of Ashtanga’s fire, Anusara’s alignment, and the fluidity of dance, all wrapped up with a healthy dose of depth to take you far beyond just the physical shapes.
I am for an experience of Yoga that goes right to the core—inviting transformation, release, and a rediscovery of your strength and grace. I’ve even included a video to give you a taste of it, so go ahead, check it out!
In Hampi, South India
You get to see how different cultures honor the Divine in their own unique way, which I think makes you a better human—and maybe even a “Citizen of the Globe” (which I believe we’re all meant to be).
I can’t wait to share this journey with you and to help you unlock parts of yourself you didn’t even know were there. So, are you ready?

"This is worth the journey because you're gonna be in an incredible space to just restructure your whole life and being, and reset everything.
What I loved about this retreat was the combination of Mariko's yoga style, the beautiful location, the hotel is just amazing. It's just a space where you can deeply relax, go inward, and also find the community, eat amazing food.
The whole combination of everything was just perfect. I'm a yoga teacher myself, so I've taken thousands of yoga classes. Her style is very, very unique and yes it's definitely something you want to attend!
And I just feel better about my body, my mind, my spirit, my whole wellbeing.
I really feel so rested now and very different than when I arrived here a week ago."

"This was more than just a workshop. What I mean is other workshops you go, you take a class and you write all the stuff and then you don’t do anything.
Mariko is just a very good teacher. She has a background in yoga that allows her to be very specific and helping you learn how to improve your own yoga practice.
But its more than just yoga. It’s also integrating the visionary and her background in Ayurvedic medicine since she is an Ayurvedic doctor.

"Oh, absolutely. Do it. Absolutely fabulous. I mean, we meet some
great, like-minded folks. Yes. it's been so much fun.
But it's also a special time when you can just shut the laptop down... to have a week like this is such a special, wonderful opportunity that doesn't happen very often...
And Mariko in particular is so humble, but an amazing yoga teacher and guru.
I think very much just being in her presence is inspiring. and she's just so inspirational, very calming and, and wonderful to be around as well.
So if you get the chance, it's something, very special and quite wonderful participate in."

“The entire experience exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to come back for another retreat with Mariko!
She is most effective as a teacher and has helped me to identify the strengths and weaknesses in my body enabling me to perform the asanas with greater comfort and ease…
Most importantly, she makes me feel that she cares; and, additionally, I feel a sense of improvement as a result of the way she encourages me and shows me how to work with my body.”

“Emotionally, spiritually you'll be changed and just to say, I think she attracts amazing people.
You are going to come away with a lot more than you probably paid for in the end.
I would say do it. I would say don’t think with your head. Think with your heart and do it if you can.
Because I am learning more and more that things are just things but these experiences are so much more valuable.
You are with a true blue authentic professional. She's definitely a 110 capable of bringing that to the table. Teaching you that and embodying that.
That's worth itself. Like right there. That’s hard to find. It’s something that you'll take home with you beyond just the physicality of it.”
